The history of Beneteau
The establishment of the renowned shipyard in France dates back to 1884. Benjamin Bénéteau founded the shipyard named after him at the quays of the fishing village of Croix-de-Vie on the Atlantic coast. Driven by innovation and passion, the first fishing boats were manufactured. In the course of technical progress, the shipbuilder developed the first motorized fishing boat in the region in 1909. For over 130 years, Benjamin Pénéteau’s pioneering spirit has always been reflected in the design of the boats – from the tradition of a ship’s carpenter to today’s cutting-edge technologies. Over time, more than 100,000 Beneteau boats with passionate water sports enthusiasts on the decks have crossed the seas around the world.
Architecture: sophisticated production of composite materials
Mastering the composite materials and their production are a strategic challenge. A boat is a complex structure that is constantly exposed to external factors. The used materials must not only be able to withstand the weather but they also determine how long it takes for the boat to age. For this reason, these materials must have numerous properties that are retained even when they are linked in complex connections. The Beneteau team spends a significant amount of effort to optimize these composites and make them compatible.
Beneteau’s research and development department provides technical solutions, both in terms of design, quality and cost optimization, through permanent monitoring of production methods and close involvement in the development of new sailing yachts and motor yachts. In the field of industrial manufacturing, permanent research to optimize production processes is a crucial task for R&D. Another function of the department is to prevent the production flow from being disrupted by bottlenecks in the availability of raw materials. Optimized processes and secured logistics are essential factors of competitiveness.
Finally, whether it is industrialization or the introduction of new materials, the development team is particularly involved in research to achieve environmentally friendly manufacturing methods and products in the French shipyard.
